The Pride of Man

Biblical manhood is going extinct in our culture. What will the church do? God has given fathers the responsibility of diligently training their sons and preparing them for lives of faithful, high agency manhood.

You are invited, even if you do not have a son or a father to attend with you.

You may have a son who is coming with you. You may have sons who are still too young to attend. You may not have sons at all. You may be a young man whose father is not able to attend with you. Please come anyway.

This year’s Retreat at the Brown Family Farm will focus on The Pride of Man.

We all know the warning that “pride comes before a fall.” Scripture speaks with devastating clarity about the danger of pride: “Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD” (Proverbs 16:5).

Pride is especially dangerous because it is often difficult to see in ourselves. Richard Baxter warned that a man can even speak against pride while pride remains in his own heart. It manifests—and often conceals—itself in hundreds of ways: self-pity, discouragement, fear of man, lack of thankfulness, boasting, acting like the expert, name-dropping, focusing on our lack of giftedness or abilities, and many more.

Men need to learn how to recognize pride, put it to death, and walk together in humility before God.

Come to be equipped for manhood. Our Father-Son Retreats feature lots of personal time. The messages are short and followed by ample time to discuss what they have just heard and apply it personally.

We are dedicated to defining biblical manhood and helping fathers and sons join forces to obey the Word of God. We cannot let biblical manhood languish in our families or in the church of Jesus Christ. What will we do with our young men? How will we prepare them for manhood?

This retreat at the Brown Family Farm will be a camping retreat, giving men an opportunity to step away from normal routines, spend meaningful time together, and consider how to pursue dominion taking, biblical manhood.
