What does it look like to know God? We invite you to our conference on Knowing God, where we will examine living illustrations for what it looks like in the lives of men and women of the Bible. Our speakers focus on various personalities in the Bible and how God's incommunicable and communicable attributes impacted them. "…but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits." (Daniel 11:32)

Welcome to the Church and Family Life podcast. Church and Family Life exists to proclaim the sufficiency of Scripture for Church and Family Life. And Jason and I are here to tell you about a really neat conference we're going to put on next May, May 2022, called Knowing God. This is going to be, I think, a really practical conference. You know, many conferences on knowing God deal with the attributes of God one by one, you know, the sovereignty of God, the love of God, and, you know, just itemizing those doctrines, those particular attributes of God.
We're going to do that, but in a really different way at this conference. This is going to be focused on the experiential knowledge of God through characters in the Bible. How did it look for men and women to know God? And sort of the theme is being drawn from Daniel 11, those who know their God shall do great exploits and shall be strong and do great exploits. So we're going to talk about those who knew their God.
In that sense, in a given character, you might find several attributes of God that are exemplified in that personality. But we want this to be a really practical conference. We want you to walk out of the conference saying, look at how that man, look at how that woman knew God. Lord, Can I know God that way? Can I know you that way?
So that's what the conference is about. So Jason, you're gonna be there, you're gonna preach at this conference. Can't wait. Yeah. I'm not ready, but I can't wait.
It has me thinking about the difference between union and communion. What's the difference? Well, union makes a Christian. God makes a Christian by joining that man or woman, boy or girl to his son by faith. And they become one.
Christ becomes the head, and we become members of his body. You either are united with Christ or you aren't. You're a believer or you're not a believer. You don't become more united to Christ over time. Then what's communion?
Communion is actually a blood-bought privilege of being in union with Christ. And so you can have a lot of it, a little of it, practically none of it. Your life can be preoccupied with it. It can be any of those things. And it is a privilege that Christians need to seize upon.
So I think this conference is about going beyond our union, which is wonderful, it makes us born again, but taking our union and this privilege that has been bought by the blood of Christ to have communion, frequent, ongoing, sweet, deep communion with God. And it's the difference between knowing about God and knowing God. Is knowing God a classroom activity? No. You can learn all about God without knowing Him at all.
And we're gonna look at that through the lens of lots of different characters in the Bible, Jonah, David, Mary, Rahab, Paul, John, and even Christ. How did the Lord Jesus Christ know his God? This is really sort of the pinnacle of them all. It's the summary, because all of the attributes of God were flowing through the Son of God. How did He know God?
So I'm really excited about it. I think it'll be a really helpful, really practical conference. In thinking about this, It made my mind go to Luke chapter 10 verses 38 through 42. Let me read it. It's familiar to all of you, I'm sure.
Luke 10, 38. Now, it happened as they went that he entered a certain village, and a certain woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary who also sat at Jesus's feet and heard his word. But Martha was distracted with much serving and she approached him and said, Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.
And Jesus answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you're worried and troubled about many things, but one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part which will not be taken away from her. And it's easy to sort of pull that forward into the life of the believer by way of analogy and to think. Many times we find ourselves running around like chickens with our heads cut off with lots of religious activity. And what we need to do is to sit at the feet of our Savior and hear His Word and enjoy His presence. That's good.
Clearly, Mary wanted to be with Him. Amen. So there you have it. I hope you can come. Sign up.
May 19th is the time of this conference at Ridgecrest, North Carolina. What we want to do is to have a see the living pictures of the incommunicable attributes of God and how they impinged on these men and women, and also how the communicable attributes of God were expressed through those personalities. I think it will help us to see what it looks like to know God, to go deeper with God, and to know Him in an experiential way, in the way that God has really designed for us. So I hope you can come, go to our website and check out the information. We've got a lot of really wonderful preachers coming.
