How can Christians live as faithful citizens in a world that often feels foreign to their beliefs?

Jeffrey D. Johnson invites us to consider how our sacred obligations, such as worship and devotion to God, are intricately connected with the everyday tasks we tend to view as mundane. Whether it's attending church services or performing daily chores like sweeping the floor or going to work, each activity is an opportunity to serve and glorify God. The integration of these aspects of life shows us that everything we do can be an act of worship, reflecting God's kingdom in our daily routines.

By applying Christian principles to every aspect of life, we not only fulfill our spiritual duties but also become good citizens of this world. Johnson emphasizes the importance of raising children to love Jesus Christ and to work hard, be productive, and contribute positively to society. This approach extends beyond Sunday worship, encompassing our entire week, and encourages both fathers and mothers to instill these values in their children. In this way, our daily lives become a testament to God's glory and His kingdom's influence in the world.

Colossians 3:17 (NKJV): "And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."

Well, God has wonderfully intertwined the sacred obligations that we have, such as devotion to the Lord, worship, going to the house of God to praise him, to hear the sermons of God, the things that are more directly what we would think directly praising the Lord, directly serving the Lord. He's integrated that with what we call the mundane things that God has called us to do. We're to sweep the floor, we're to go to work, we're to change the tires on our cars, where to do these, what we consider mundane, secular things, but these things we're to do for the glory of God. Whatever our hand finds it to do, we're to do for God's glory. Everything is an act of worship.

Everything is designed to spread, if you would, the kingdom of God in this world. And so that includes being an evangelist, but it also includes building businesses, raising our kids as a father, raising my son, not just to love the Lord Jesus Christ chiefly, but also to be a good citizen of this world, to be able to work hard, to be productive, and to take the Christian influences, Christian principles, and apply it to everyday life. And for mothers to do the same things with their daughters and their sons. We're here to bring glory to God and that doesn't just include our Sunday morning worship but it includes our Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, our 40-day work weeks that we put in to our children and to our professions. And in these ways, they're in this way, we can and are to glorify God.
