How should Christians respond when confronted with tyranny?

Pooyan Mehrshahi emphasizes that Christians must first seek guidance from God when facing tyrannical actions from the government or any establishment. This guidance is found in the Bible, where we seek biblical principles, ensuring that our actions align with God's commands. By looking to examples such as Daniel and his friends, as well as the disciples, we learn the importance of prioritizing allegiance to God while respecting governmental authorities within their God-ordained limitations.

In responding to tyranny, Christians are called to uphold justice and righteousness within the framework of the law. This may sometimes involve peaceful protest, civil disobedience, or legal action, depending on the circumstances. Prayer is central to our response, as we trust in God's wisdom and intervention. Ultimately, the goal is to honor God and uphold His truth, even if it comes at a personal cost, such as fines or imprisonment, as seen in the lives of believers across the world.

Acts 5:29 (NKJV): "But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: 'We ought to obey God rather than men.'"

When faced with tyrannical actions from the government or from any establishment, Christians should seek guidance from God first. Where is that guidance? Where is the Word of God? We have it in our Bibles. We seek biblical principles.

We don't want to do anything that is outside of God's commands. We don't take jurisdiction over these things. God has to and He has given us His Word. We see the example of faithful believers like Daniel and his friends. We see the commands of God when he says to follow me.

We see the disciples when they say that we must obey God rather than men. But first and foremost, our ultimate allegiance belongs to God and we must prioritize obedience to His commands above all else. However, we should also respect the government and the governing authorities as they are ordained by God, but we must obey them within their limitations, within their jurisdictions. And so we must study the Word of God to see what is a government, what are its limitations, and what is it for. We should seek to uphold justice.

We should seek to uphold righteousness within the framework of the law. And this may involve peaceful protest. It may involve civil disobedience. It may involve legal recourse. It all depends on the circumstances and the extent of the tyranny.

But additionally, we are not like the world. We have a sovereign God who hears prayer. We must pray. Give ourselves to prayer. We must repent of our own sins.

So prayer should be central. It should be the central component of our response as we seek God's wisdom, as we seek God's guidance and intervention. God will intervene. We should trust that. We should believe that God will intervene.

But ultimately, our goal should be to honor God and uphold His truth in the face of all opposition. And doing that, it may cost us. It may cost us even our life, as our brothers and sisters in other nations must give their life because they uphold the truth of the scripture. And so it may mean that we will have to pay fines. But as long as we are standing for Christ, we should be happy with that.

We should rejoice because of that. We may be thrown into prison for some time. We should rejoice also that we've been counted worthy to suffer for Christ's sake. It is not something that we seek after, but it is something that we have thought of, we have counted the cost, but in the face of tyranny, the Christian seeks to know what is the will of God in his Word. We are not independent, we are subject unto God.
