How can we actively serve the Lord while waiting for His return?
Alexander Strauch emphasizes the importance of being active for the Lord and warns against passivity and despondency. He points out that the New Testament is filled with commands to serve, pray, and care for one another. This is a call to action, reminding us that there is much to do for the kingdom of God. We must be vigilant against despondency, which can hinder our effectiveness as Christians. Instead, we should embrace a positive outlook, recognizing that the best is yet to come and that we are not alone in our endeavors.
Strauch encourages believers to engage in various ministries, such as prayer, phone, and card writing. He highlights the importance of reaching out to those in need, like senior citizens or those who are suffering, and offering encouragement. These acts of service not only fulfill the biblical command to 'occupy till I come' but also reflect the love and grace of God in our lives. By being busy for Jesus, we can actively contribute to the work of the church and the spread of the Gospel.
Galatians 6:9 (NKJV): "And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."
Don't back off, don't be passive, don't be despondent. We are to be active for the Lord. There's much to do. There's so much in the New Testament about the one another commands, serving one another, praying for one another, caring for one another. There's much to do.
There's so many needs. So we have to be very careful of despondency, which is a great tool of the devil, and well we go there's so many problems in the world. Well you know what? If I'm reading the Christian faith right, we should be a very positive people. The best is yet to head.
The Lord is with us. We're not alone. And in the hardest of times, we see God's wonderful, gracious hand in our lives. So that's what I would say, occupy till I come. Be busy for Jesus.
And if you're not busy, why not call me on the phone. I'll tell you plenty of things we can do. We can all have prayer ministries. We can have phone ministries, card writing ministries. My wife writes lots of cards and letters every day.
People love it. Just picking up the phone and calling senior citizens in your church, people who are suffering, people need encouragement. Pray on the phone. There is so much to do and there's the whole ministry of encouragement. That's an actual a gift, encouragement.
