Throughout Scripture, God tells His people to sing, and as we raise our children, we’re to teach them to joyfully obey this command. Here are (8) tips to aid you in this effort. First, sing from the little ones all the way to the older ones. Second, don’t let your children mumble their way through the songs. Third, teach them to open their mouths to project their voices. Fourth, show them proper posture. Fifth, remind them to sing when they forget. Sixth, when your children are too young to know all a songs’ words, have them hum the tune. Seventh, sing the same songs at home, in the car. Eighth, make it fun. Ninth, sing on the way to church, so as you come with your children to the meeting, they’ll be ready to present their bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God (Rom. 12:1).

Most children won't sing in church when they're young unless their parents intervene. So I'd like to give you nine tips for helping your children to sing in the Church of Jesus Christ. Often parents don't intervene because they're afraid of offending their children by pushing them into something they don't want to do. And they think, well, eventually, you know, they'll pick it up. But here's what we need to remember.

A child left to himself, things don't go well, Proverbs 29, 15. And so here are a few tips. First, make it plain that when the family goes to church, we go to sing. We don't sing because we feel like it, we sing because it's the right thing to do, it's not optional. It's what God commands people to do in the church, so make sure your children Understand that singing is a simple matter of obedience to God second don't let them mumble their way through the songs you can teach them techniques of singing and Third here's one of the techniques Teach them to open their mouths to project their voices.

No whispering, no mumbling. Next, show them proper posture. Sitting up straight helps to project the sound. It also facilitates respect for the sacredness of singing. It's not a time to slouch.

Fifth tip, remind them to sing when they forget because they might forget. You got to get them back on track. Sixth, When they're young and they don't understand all the words and they can't pronounce them very well, show them that it's really good just to hum the tune. The words aren't necessary. All of them aren't necessary, particularly when they're young, especially when they will pick up on the words later on.

It'll happen in time. The next tip, make it fun. Sing the same songs at home or in the car. Help them to learn the lyrics. The songs will come back to bless them for many years to come.

Next lesson, sing on the way to church. When you come into the congregation to present your body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, make sure you've been a good parent who taught your children to sing. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever. Visit FamilyLife.com for more resources.
