A Fighter Pilot’s Lessons on Faith, Discipline, and Trust

For more than two decades, Phill Cochran flew the F-16 Fighting Falcon. For twenty-three years, he stood behind a pulpit, preaching and teaching God’s Word.

As Phill moved from the world of combat aviation to the care of souls, he began to see something unmistakable: the demands of military service and the realities of high-performance flight reflect deeper spiritual truths:

  • The sky became a classroom
  • The jet became an illustration

These reflections come to life in this book of 40 devotionals.

Each one features a key Scripture verse, spiritual lesson, Puritan quote, (4) questions to ponder, and a thoughtful prayer.

Be encouraged and challenged in your spiritual walk with rich practical insights on:

  • Grace and repentance
  • Providence and perseverance
  • Warning and correction
  • Joy and sorrow
  • Temptation and hope

Aviation is not the subject—it is the colorful backdrop that helps bring biblical truth to the soul.

What Phill learned at the speed of sound now serves a higher mission: to help believers grow in holiness, endure faithfully, and live with eternity in view.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Phillip Cochran retired from the U.S. Air Force in 2013 as a Lieutenant Colonel after more than two decades as an F-16 fighter pilot and instructor, flying operational missions in Japan and training pilots in Arizona and Oklahoma. Alongside his military service, he pastored for twenty-three years, with many of the devotionals in this book growing out of sermons first preached from the pulpit. Married at eighteen, he and his wife have shared forty-three years together and are grateful for seven children and three grandchildren. Through aviation, ministry, and family life, Phillip has come to see how lessons learned at the speed of sound illuminate enduring spiritual truths.
