In the modern era it seems that the patriarchal family structure has come under attack from all sides. On one side are those wishing to smash its timeless ideals, ideals which have well served human society from the dawn of creation. On the other are those attempting to co-opt patriarchal language in order to justify the mistreatment and sexual exploitation of women. Neither rightly depicts what a biblical patriarchal family was created to be. In this book the author takes an exegetical approach to the subject, expounding key texts from Ephesians chapters five and six in order to discover what patriarchy actually is and what it ultimately points to. Searching both the Scriptures and church history for patriarchal principle and practice, he draws out timeless principles not only for men but for women and children as well. The goal is to move the reader from asking how his family might best serve his own goals and desires, and to ask instead how his family might most glorify God.
