Joel Beeke explains in this video that it can be difficult for fathers to practically teach their family and apply Scripture to everyday life. It is important for fathers to bring Scripture to bear on every part of life. We want fathers to be teaching their children every day. By the time children leave the home, it should be a father's goal that there has been no significant area of life that they haven't talked about with their Dad in detail about what Scripture has to say.

Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV) - "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."

When it comes to family worship, I think the hardest thing for most fathers to lead their family is the part where they actually practically teach their family after they've read the scripture. I mean, it's always difficult and challenging to pray every day in front of your family and not fall into repetition. And that may be a bit challenging. I think the hardest part is really bringing the scripture to bear in every single facet of life as you go through all the scriptures, bringing the whole counsel of God to your children. We really want fathers to be teaching their children day by day from the Word of God so that by the time the children are, say, 20 or so and leave the home, that there's been absolutely no significant area of life that they haven't talked about with their dad in detail based on the Word of God at some point in those 20 years.
