Craig Houston explains in this video that he is concerned that he is concerned that many churches today focus too much on entertainment instead of sound doctrine. Those who attend are not challenged by Scripture. Scripture is not faithfully preached. Instead, doctrine is watered down or even compromised.
Matthew 6:24 (NKJV) - "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon."
And speaking of the church in America, in a very broad sense, speaking of Christendom, so to speak, I'm deeply concerned, gravely concerned. Not that there are not glimmers of hopefulness or positive things that I can point to, there certainly are, but in general, I'm concerned with the kind of a happy, clappy, come get your weekly one hour of worship in the church and live your life however you please. And I know that many of them would not say, well we don't believe that, but in practice that's what a lot of churches are doing. They have an entertainment model. People come, they enjoy, they get bedazzled, and they go about the rest of their lives not really living in any way distinct from the rest of the culture.
And what's going to happen is you're going to see more and more people who are unwilling to give up their place in the world, to stand with Christ in his church, and you're going to see, I believe, a great exodus from those churches that are popular to be in, that are acceptable to be in, when it comes down to you have to make a choice. Either serve God or serve idols. And the day is now, really, where men need to say, as for me and my house, we're going to serve the Lord. Pastors need to say, as a church, we are going to choose to serve the Lord. We're going to cast off idols, and we're going to serve God.
