What did the Reformers believe?

Rob Ventura explains in this video that there were specific doctrines, such as justification, sanctification, and election, that were analyzed, discussed, and fleshed out by the Reformers. We can know what they believed on these issues because they composed Confessions of Faith.

Even though we live hundreds of years later, we can know what they believed and the Scripture verses that they used as their foundation. The wisdom and writings of the Reformers, though they are centuries old, can be of tremendous value to us today as we seek to obey and serve God.

2 Timothy 2:2 (NKJV) – “And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

Again, the particular doctrines that would resonate with me from the Reformation, the gospel, justification by faith alone, sanctification, the Reformers wrote a lot about sanctification, election, you know all of these things which are spoken about in the great confessions of faith whether it be the Westminster Confession of Faith or Savoy or for myself the London Baptist 1689, If we want to know what the Christians believe coming out of the Protestant Reformation You've got the Protestant Reformation the reformers the Puritans after them We go to the confessions of faith and we say here is what historic Christianity has always believed And as a reformed Baptist living hundreds of years later. I'm thankful that I can say here is historic Christianity. This is historic Baptist faith. So again we go back to what our fathers have believed, not seeking to add new things as the Confession says by new revelation or other traditions of men. Amen.
