What is an example of false repentance?
Curt Daniels explains in this video that about 18 years ago, a man came and showed up and said that he had sinned in his past and he was sorry. There were many tears shed. Curt told him that you need to go back, repent, and face the consequences of his sin.
But instead of showing characteristics of true repentance, this man went right back immediately to the same sin that he said he was repenting of. This is an example of what appears to be false repentance - an individual returning to the sin that he allegedly repented of.
Proverbs 26:11 (NKJV) – “As a dog returns to his own vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.”
About 18 years ago a man let's just say he was in the northwest part of the United States who came and showed up in Springfield where I pastor and he said I've sinned, I've sinned, I'm a pastor, I've fallen into sexual sin and I'm so sorry and I said well what are you doing here? He said well I'm afraid. I said well if I counsel you then you need to go back, turn yourself in, face the consequences, because if you're truly repentant you will pay for what's coming to you. And he cried and cried. I remember him saying, I've sinned, I've sinned.
He went back and the first thing he did was he went back to the girl he had been having a sexual liaison with and the police were waiting for him. And I think that was false repentance because he went right back immediately to the very same sin he said he had been petted of.
