What is a catalyst for repentance?
Paul Carrington explains in this video that one characteristic of a church that embraces repentance is a constant preaching of the Word of God. Scripture becomes a catalyst for repentance. In the book of Ezekiel, Ezekiel's audience only came to hear a person play well on an instrument or an individual who had a lovely voice.
Those who listen to Ezekiel's sermons only hear his words but they do not do them. That is the opposite of a church that will repent. A church who hears the Word and takes it seriously and wants more of God will become a repentant church. In order to facilitate this, we need men who will preach Scripture week in and week out because they desire to please God.
John 14:6 (NKJV) – “ Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
I would think, you know, the other thing in regards to a church that is repentant is that there's the constant preaching of the Word of God, and the Word of God becomes that catalyst for repentance. People begin to weigh themselves by the Word of God. We're not like those in the book of Ezekiel who come but they come to hear him who plays well upon an instrument who has a lovely voice. You know, Ezekiel, the book says that they hear his words, but they will not do them. And I think that's the opposite of a church who will repent, but a church who's hearing the word of God, who is taking the Word of God seriously and wants more of God will become a repentant church, but we need men who will be preaching that Word week in and week out, irrespective of what the faces in the congregation will be looking like.
They want to preach the truth because they're wanting to please God.
