How does repentance begin within the home?
Rob Ventura explains in this video that creating a culture of repentance begins with the father and the husband. They are the head of their family and are to lead their family in this. Husbands are to be men who regularly repent of their sins. They need to set the example. They must be men of prayer.
They must be able to humble themselves and apologize to their wife and their child. Christ is glorified in a home when the husband exemplifies repentance to his family.
Psalm 103:13 (NKJV) - "As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him."
How does repentance work in the home? Well, it begins with the father. It begins with the husband. And I tell men in the home, I don't care what your wife did in that situation, you're the head, you're to lead. And husbands I'd exhort you to be men who repent regularly of your sins, firstly to your spouses and then to your children.
And then your children make sure that they repent one to another, asking for forgiveness and then praying for one another and I've tried to model that to my family for years certainly to my wife and she'd come to me honey would you please forgive me for what I said or how I said it and same thing and then to the children Joshua, Moriah or Samuel would you forgive me because you know what how I said it wasn't right And I didn't mean for it to come across that way. Would you please forgive dad? And they say, I forgive you. Then we give a hug and then we go forward. And when you have that type of atmosphere in a home where parents are repenting and children are repenting and people are asking for forgiveness, it's a beautiful thing.
Christ is glorified in a home like that.
