How is a parent to raise their children in a godly manner?
Clarence Simmons acknowledges in this video that raising children is difficult. When we take the Word of God, we want to use His Word to shape them as much as we can beginning at an early age. We need to teach them the way that they should go, not the way that they would go, apart from Christ.
We want to instill things in our children and raise them up in a godly manner, teaching them what is right and wrong. We fashion and mold them by Scripture. Repetition is helpful.
Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV) - "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."
Raring up children is difficult. That's just how it is. But when we take the word of God, we want to take the word of God and shape them as much as possible. From an early age, it's to train up a child in the way he should go, not in the way he would go. And when he's old, he will not be apart from that.
So we want to again instill things in the children and then we want to bring them along the way and part of that is correction along the way. You know, letting them know what's right and what's wrong. They already know what's wrong primarily but let them know what's right and what's wrong. And again, fashioning them and molding them by the scriptures, planting that into them over and over again. Repetition is good, So you got to keep that before them over and over again in a loving and gracious way.
And to affirm at the same time, but that's what we want to do.
