Kirk Smith explains in this video that husbands are to live with their wives in an understanding way. This involves knowing when our wives are discouraged, upset, or troubled. When our wives know that we hear them, it will produce a joy when they know that their husbands know and understand them.
1 Peter 3:7 (NKJV) - "Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered."
1 Peter says that we men are to live with our wives in an understanding way. Now that word understanding in the Greek means to know them intimately, not just some superficial knowledge. Sometimes we men will know how to throw a curve ball, or hit a 9-9, or shoot a big buck, but we don't know when our wives are heavy laden, when they're troubled in spirit. But if we live with our wives in an understanding way, we should know by that look in their eye or by that inflection in their voice that something's just not quite right. And when we do that, when our wives know that we hear them, I think it will produce such a joy in their life that, hey, my covering, my husband really knows me, but also will help us to say, hey, it's time for you to pull back, maybe pull back as a family from running or going so much because you need the rest, you need the encouragement right now.
So I encourage men especially to live with your wives in an understanding way.
