Anthony Mathenia explains in this video that fathers have an obligation to shepherd their family and to point them to Christ. They should teach their children about the things of God and help them to make wise decisions as they grow older. They should follow hard after Christ and strive to set a godly example for their children.

Isaiah 40:11 (NKJV) - "He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those who are with young."

The obligation that we have as fathers within the home to shepherd our family is similar to that, almost a direct parallel to the obligation that ministers have within the local church. It is primarily to point our children to Christ. Within the church we point the parishioners, the people there, to Christ through His word, through actions, through choices that we make. And in the home we have an obligation to shepherd the flock of God, to shepherd our sheep within the home, the children that God has given us, primarily by pointing them to His Word, teaching them to honor him in all things, to love him with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength, to make choices that are pleasing to him, to seek to honor him in every respect. To do so, again, the parallel passages in Scripture are helpful.

The obligation for a pastor to exercise oversight, not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God, for a father to function that way within the home would be excellent. Not lording it over those who are allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock. One of the best ways that fathers can be shepherds within the home is be an accurate example to follow hard after Christ so that we can say like the Apostle Paul, be imitators of me as I am of Christ. If we can say that to our kids We're being successful spiritual shepherds to our children.
