What happens when fathers fail to raise their children in the things of the Lord?
Paul Carrington explains in this video that if you want to see a clear warning when we don't follow Deuteronomy 6, we can look at the book of Judges. After Joshua had passed and the elders, there was a generation that did not know the Lord nor the things that He had done. Much of the book is an illustration of what happened to a generation that had forgotten the Lord.
So in regards to Deuteronomy chapter 6, if you want to see a very clear warning of what happens when we don't follow Deuteronomy 6 and what the Lord has outlined for us I think you have to go no further than the book of Judges and what you find in the book of Judges is now the Children of Israel have actually passed into the Promised Land They're living in the Promised Land but there's a very sad verse that is captured in the very early parts of Judges where it says that Joshua had passed away, as well as the elders that outlived Joshua. But there came a generation who did not know the Lord, nor the things that He had done for Israel. And I think what this highlights for us is that somewhere along the line there was a breakdown. There might have been knowledge passed down. They might have been able to again check the box and say well I know the history, I know Moses and I know Abraham and all these types of things they could have known but there wasn't a heart knowledge and as a result of that the entire book of Judges is the disastrous result of what happens when you don't teach your children diligently to obey the Word of God.
That's something that we want to avoid as we live in this pagan culture that's surrounding us.
