Sam Waldron explains in this video that the father described in Psalm 78 desires to see generational faithfulness. Every father should want the same thing -- that his children and grandchildren continue to faithfully walk with the Lord. Fathers should be in constant prayer and seek after godliness.

Luke 16:10 (NKJV) - "He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much."

This father in Psalm 78 has a generational aspiration. He wants to see the truth that God has taught him, that his father has taught him, passed on to future generations. And so that's something of course that every father should emulate. Every Christian father should want to see his children and his grandchildren coming up after him in the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ, in the truth as it is in Jesus Christ. And that motivation will constantly be on his heart and in his prayers for his children and his grandchildren.
