Kirk Smith explains in this video that there may be times where children struggle with their faith. As they gradually go out into the real world, they will come across people who believe differently. When our children have questions, parents should walk by faith and not by fear. As our children ask these questions, we can point theme back to Christ. Doubt and struggles are a normal part of life.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV) - "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."

There are times when our kids may struggle with their faith. They've lived in this bubble of home discipleship, which is a great bubble to be in, by the way. But as they gradually get more rope to go out to the real world, and I hope that's a measured release, they're going to come across people who believe differently, who don't share the same worldview. And when our kids come home and ask us, say, Dad, I've met this person or that person. It can be a fearful thing in the life of a parent because we think, are our kids grounded enough?

Do they know the Word of God? Do they know the theology well enough to survive in this world? But I want to encourage you parents to walk by faith during this season, not by fear, because we serve the living God, the God of truth. And as our kids ask these questions, it cannot help but lead them back to Jesus Christ. And by the way, there are other men in the Scriptures who also had times when their faith was tested as well.

Elijah, after he battled the prophets of Baal, and Jezebel was going to kill him. We see throughout David, throughout the Psalms, when he was on the run from Saul, he was questioning everything. Why did the wicked prosper? Habakkuk said the same thing. So rather than treating this time as a time of fear, I encourage you to treat it with great faith because God's at work taking your children's faith from their head to their heart.

And I might suggest that's the longest 11 inch trip in life. So let them ask those questions. Share the Word of God with them. Be faithful in season and out of season because God has ordained that season to make your parents' faith their own faith.
