Paul White explains in this video that families need to focus their attention on Christ and see Him as a great treasure in all of life. If they do this, there will be fewer distractions and a greater desire to learn more about the things of God. Time spent studying God's Word, fellowshipping with fellow believers, and in prayer is certainly not wasted time.

Hebrews 12:1-2 (NKJV) - "Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."

I have been encouraged as a pastor. I make the attempt to preach Christ and I am reminded weekly of my failure in that regard to preach Christ and Him crucified in all of His glory. And there are times of discouragement when I wonder if these people are getting bored with this message, and then I'm able to go and sit under somebody else or hear someone from my congregation preach Christ to me, and I'm reminded every time that this never gets boring, it is always the encouragement that I need. It is the fix. There are gonna be specific applications in specific circumstances, but as a broad rule, if you can get families to focus their attention on the Lord Jesus and see him as the great treasure in all of life and that everything in their 80 or 90 years, if it is given to that pursuit, it will not be wasted.

It will only be fruitful. And if you can get families to see that, get fathers to see it, mothers to see it, husbands to see it, wives to see it, children to see it, and you've got a congregation that has fixed their gaze on Christ, a lot of the issues will fall by the wayside.
