Jeff Pollard explains in this video that a priest is a mediator. Fathers represent their families to God and is a priest in his home. He should be frequently praying and be concerned for his family's needs -- both physical and spiritual.

1 Timothy 2:5 (NKJV) - "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus."

A priest is a mediator, and a mediator is a go-between. As a priest, a father represents his family to God. Or he may only have a wife he may not have started having children yet but in in either case he is the priest in his home That idea is set forth in the book of Job, where Job would arise, offer up sacrifice, and he would pray for his children. He was concerned that they might sin against God. So as the covenant head, as the one appointed by God to oversee his family on one hand as a shepherd, he is a priest and he ministers on behalf of the family to Almighty God.

He prays for their needs, whether they be physical or whether they be spiritual. And He earnestly intercedes for them throughout the days, the weeks, the months, and the years of their lives together.
