Mike Davenport explains that it is important for a father to teach what authority looks like within the church. He can demonstrate this by teaching his family about authority within the home. The family is a great place for children to learn to serve, obey, and honor. Ultimately, if we have strong families, we will have strong churches.

Romans 12:16-17 (NKJV) - “Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men.”

It is an important thing for the Father to teach what authority looks like in the church. This He does by Showing what authority is like in the home. Matthew Henry described the family as a little church. And so children can learn authority in the home that God has ordained such, even as He has in the church. The family is a great place for children to also learn how to serve.

Their desires, the working out of the gifts that God has given them there in the home under the authority of a father for the good of that family is a training ground for those children. If God should bring them to faith and unite them to that church or to another church, these children will have learned how to use their gifts, not separately, but for the good of the family to benefit one another, how to get along with others in that family, how to operate under the authority of their father and their mother, and how to take what they have learned into the church so that there might be peace, so that there might be unity, so there might be each member of the church doing their part for the growth of that entire church, even as they were able to do faithfully in that family. So I see the family as a great training ground for the church. And if we have strong families, most times it will relate into us having strong churches.
