Mike Davenport explains in this video that God purposed to send His Son from the very beginning. He loved His people with an everlasting love. Our marriages are to display the glory that exists between Christ and the Church. Husbands are to love their wives as Christ loved the Church. Wives are to submit to their husbands. What are you portraying in your marriage?

Ephesians 5:22-24 (NKJV) - "Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything."

God did not look down in the corridors of time and see marriage and think this would be a good way to describe it. No. He purposed to send his son. His son was, as it were, slain before the foundations of the world. God loved his people with an everlasting love, a covenant love.

And so when Jesus came, the revelation of Jesus Christ came, and God knew what he was doing in establishing marriage to picture Christ and his church. And so our marriages are to reflect the glory that exists between Christ, the bridegroom, and His bride, the church. We are to show as husbands a love that Christ has for His bride. He washes her with the water of His Word. He is removing every spot, every wrinkle that she might be presented to Him, a bride without this spot and this wrinkle.

And the bride is a beautiful picture of what the church is to be in submitting to her head Jesus Christ. And so we see revealed in Christ, in understanding who Christ is and who His church is and that He's come to redeem this one, we understand marriage much more. And Christ and the church are to be reflected, that relationship reflected in our lives as husbands and wives before our watching children, before a watching world.
