Tom Ford explains in this video God makes it very clear that parents are to fear God and obey His commandments. God gives us practical ways in how we are to train our children -- in a discipleship-style method. They walk alongside their parents and learn to obey God and to love Him.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (NKJV) - "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up."
You know, one of the areas where God speaks real directly to the family is in Deuteronomy chapter 6, 1 through 9. He makes it real clear that we as parents are to fear the Lord our God and to love the Lord with all of our heart, mind, body and soul and that we are to obey His commandments. And it's that which is in our own heart we're supposed to teach to our children and we're supposed to do that diligently. And the way we do that is real clear as well. He gives us real practical ways that we're to do it in a discipleship method of walking with our children, not in hiring somebody else to do it or sending them off.
And It's not just an academic practice where they learn the laws of God, but they walk with their parents and with each other and learn to obey the Lord their God and to love Him by watching their parents and being with them. The scripture clearly says when you sit down in your homes, when you walk along the way, when you lie down at night, you're to teach the law of God to your children and to have it before them, even on yourself, as a sign on your hands, affront to your eyes, have it before you always, whether it be and then on your gates and doorposts. In our home, what we have done over the years, if we have scripture on the wall everywhere, usually there in canvases or on wood or through different kinds of artwork, but throughout our house the Word of God is before us that we see it and know it and gives us things to talk about. And even though sometimes I don't know all the scriptures that are in our house, many of our very small children do, and I see how God even uses that to teach them.
