John Snyder explains in this video that when there is discouragement in the family, it's easy to pin the blame on yourself. In fact, many parents are paralyzed by grief and despair. They haven't dealt with the guilt they experience. If you are part of the problem, go to Christ. Repent for your sins. Turn from your sin.

2 Corinthians 7:10 (NKJV) - "For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death."

When there's discouragements in the family, it's very easy to look at yourself and to say it's all my fault. Now if it's all your fault, you need to be honest, it's all your fault, but that's probably not the case. You know, so we look at ourselves and the accuser comes along and our conscience cries out and says, well, what did you expect? I mean look how inconsistent you've been. Now if you let that stick, whether It's a false accusation or it's a legitimate accusation.

If you don't do something with that, it's like a cut that gets infected and it just doesn't heal right. And I have seen many parents who just seem to be permanently spiritually paralyzed by grief and despair. And part of the reason is because they haven't dealt with any with this polluting issue of guilt. So if it's not true you just have to you have to you know lay it before the Lord and say is this really what's happened? Is it true?

And if it's not true then you have to be honest and say this is not true. But what if it is true? What if it's partly true? What if what if there is some guilt in Your behavior and the way that you treated your wife in front of your kids the way you talk to them when you retired You know the way they saw you at church What if you're part of the problem? Well the cure is to go immediately to Christ, to go to the cross and to say to God, this is partly me.

I see my sins being reproduced in my kids. You know, I hear the same things coming out of their mouth. I see the same lackadaisical attitude toward you. So God, I want to turn from that. Not because, you know, I'll turn from that and you'll fix my family.

But I want to turn back to you because you deserve that. But God, I also need you to wash my conscience, to cleanse my wounded conscience from the guilt. Christ died for the inconsistencies of every parent. Christ died for every Christian parent's failures as much as for any other sin. So we're free to bring those to Christ.
