Jason Dohm explains in this video that we see the persevering in the faith of the Patriarchs -- Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Abraham was justified by faith and persisted in his faith. In spite of sin and weaknesses, they continued to follow the Lord.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV) - "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."

The patriarchs, obviously, had failings in their parenting, but what you see out of Abraham, out of Isaac, out of Jacob, out of Joseph is persevering in the faith. The Apostle Paul actually quotes Genesis in Galatians and saying that Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness. This is really the picture of Abraham. Abraham is the type of the New Testament believer who is justified by faith. And Abraham, he persisted.

He persisted in his faith even though he had sins in his life. You actually see this really in the lives of all the patriarchs. In spite of sin, they rebound and they continue to follow the Lord.
