Sam Waldron explains in this video that parents need to be faithful in disciplining their children. Throughout this, the parent should work to maintain a relationship with the child and communicate love and concern for that child. Above all, a parent needs to continue to preach the Gospel to the child.

Proverbs 12:1 (NKJV) - "Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid."

Parents need to be faithful as long as those children are minor children in their home. They need to be faithfully disciplined. There needs to be an insistence on the standards of the law of God for those children, but at the end, there needs to be discipline. Depending on the age of the child, the rod, and certainly reproof, and certainly other forms of discipline are necessary. But in all of that, the parent needs to try to maintain a relationship with the child, communicate love and yearning concern for the child, and also to preach the gospel again and again and again into his ears and the need for that young person to see that as a result of his lifestyle he should be seeing more and more clearly both that he's a sinner and that the way of the transgressor is hard and the only deliverance he has from that is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
