Jason Dohm explains in this video that girls in their parents' household should be preparing run a household. Those are skills and qualities that cover many different categories. Even if a daughter doesn't get married, she can use those skills in a lot of different areas. Once a daughter gets older, she should continue to be learning and her parents can also help her find something compelling to spend her time on.

Girls in their parents' home should be preparing to run a household. No young lady will ever be sorry and ever come to a point where she says I didn't need the preparation to run a household because those are actually skills and qualities that are across many many different many many different categories so even if you're one of those who doesn't end up running a household, those skills are easily transferable to so many other things. When a young lady is 18, she's finished high school, I think there are a couple things that need to happen. First of all, as a father who's been in that position before, I encouraged ongoing education after high school. My rationale was this.

Everyone, men, women, need to be lifelong learners. And to have that be formalized is actually helpful and it drives some disciplines that are good. Secondly, a daughter, when and if she marries, when and if they have children. We're wanting them to be the most active participants in education and really to be the primary teacher of these children. The more they know, the more they learn, the more they've mastered, the better, the more confident they are in that role.

And then finally I would say a daughter over the age of 18 needs to work together with her mom and dad to find something compelling to spend her time on. She's not just marking time, some undetermined period of time hoping that Prince Charming comes along. There needs to be something compelling to spend her time on and she and her mom and dad need to discover what that is and then pursue it wholeheartedly.
