Malamulo Chindongo answers the question in this video why Christ discusses hating one's family in the book of Luke. He explains that In that passage, Christ is testing our love for Him and calling us to love Him more than anything else. For many of us, the thing that we love most is our family.

Luke 14:26 (NKJV) - "If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple."

So why did Jesus say you should hate your family? So we hear Jesus say those words and probably a lot of people think, oh, you know, is Jesus now saying there's no need to be a part of a family That's not why Jesus is communicating in that passage. Jesus is actually testing our love for him He's calling us to to love him more than anything else And so think of what is the closest thing that we all have in this world. This family, it's your mother, it's your brother, your sisters, it's your father, it's from my part of the world, it's your cousins, your aunties, your uncles. Those are your family, those are the people close to you.

And as a test of our love for Jesus, where he calls us to love him above all else, that's when Jesus brings that language and says, you must hate your family. And it's not the kind of hatred out of evil, but the us loving him more than anything else in this world. You
