What should a wife do if a husband is not leading their family?

Dr. Carlton McLeod explains in this video that even if a husband is not leading their family, a wife should still be submissive, be kind, and otherwise be an exemplary wife. At some point, he suggests that she might try talking to him and ask him if he would lead their family and encourage him in doing so.

Proverbs 14:1 (NKJV) - "The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish pulls it down with her hands."

I want to encourage her, if her husband is not leading, to do the things that she can do according to the word of God. So to be submissive, to be kind, to attempt to win him without a word as the Apostle Peter speaks about and to be an exemplary wife. At some point if he's amenable, I would encourage her to to talk with me and you just kind of look him in between the eyes and let him know how much she loves him and values him and appreciates him. But also, because sometimes we men can miss the heart of our wives, also to just go ahead and ask him, sweetheart, would you lead me? You know, I want you to lead me.

I need you to lead me. And I'm comfortable in that leadership and blessed by that leadership. And sometimes just that general encouragement, because we don't know exactly what's going on with the husband at this point. But sometimes that encouragement, the encouragement of our wives means a lot to married men. It really does.

There's no one that could, you know, other than the Lord himself, that can breathe air into our sails like our wives. And so sometimes that brother might be tentative for various reasons and just needs a little bit of encouragement. So First thing, be a good wife. Be an exemplary wife. Don't nag.

Don't be the, you know, the rooftop wife, right? Don't nag. Be an exemplary wife, but then at some point, look him in his eyes and encourage him to lead. And more often than not, Unless there's extenuating circumstances, that gets its attention.
