How does a parent's role in raising their children change as their children grow older?

Calvin Beisner explains in this video that children change as they grow older. When they are younger, they require much supervision and direction from their parents. As they mature, that level of supervision decreases.

Parents must equip our children to make wise decisions on their own. Children will inevitably make mistakes as they grow up, but parents can be there to encourage, support, and patiently provide advice to them.

2 Timothy 3:14-15 (NKJV) - "But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus."

Disciples with Children changes immensely as they get older. We have to choreograph pretty much every minute of their lives when they are very little. And over the years, bit by bit, we need to be reducing our control over their lives, Which means that we have to be preparing for them for that reduced control by communicating to them the wisdom of scriptures so that they have that ability to make wise decisions on their own More and more as they get into their teen years and especially in their upper teen years, the occasions for us to give them orders should become very few and instead we should be changing into their trusted advisors. And that's often hard for us because when our advice gets ignored, we tend to get offended and we tend to feel like that's insubordination, that it's disobedience, disrespect, dishonoring to parents and sometimes it actually is but more often than not it's just our young people trying to figure out what it is to be becoming adults and responsible for their own decisions. And they're going to do it well sometimes and not going to do it well sometimes.

And our task is to patiently be there and supporting them, encouraging them, even when they make a foolish decision and the ground falls out beneath them, we can still, even on that, compliment them for the fact that they had the courage to make that decision for themselves. And now, they have the opportunity to learn from it.
