What is something important to remember if a father is apprehensive about leading family worship?
Family worship is one of the fundamental things that a man should establish in his home. It is foundational. It helps families to be constantly studying, meditating upon, and living according to Scripture.
If it is just a man and his wife, leading family worship should not be too difficult. Just read a chapter of Scripture and ask each other how you can pray for them. Then, both pray together. The most important thing is to read the Word of God and to pray together.
James 5:16 (NKJV) - "Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."
God's Worship is one of the fundamental planks that a man ought to establish in his home to have a Christian home. It's not everything, but it is foundational, along with a number of other things in terms of having a Christian home. It's not the only thing you must do. It's not the only time a family should interact with the Word of God, quite frankly. But it does provide a foundation for that interaction and for that constant living according to the would of God.
And it is a manifestation of a man's headship in his home that he insists this family will be one of those families that in the words of Scripture call on God. Now the hints I wanted to give are first of all if it's just a man and his wife, I try to tell men who are struggling with this, This is not that hard. Here's what you need to do. You need to sit down, you need to read a chapter of the Bible with your wife, and then you need to ask her, how can I pray for you? And then when she answers you, you can tell her how she can pray for you, and then you pray together.
Perhaps then you can sing or do something else, that's all fine. But the first thing you need to do is make sure you're reading the Word of God together and then that you pray for each other. And it's not that complicated, really.
