How do we know what "love" truly means?

Mike Davenport explains in this video that we are bombarded with modern views of love through books, newspapers, and other media. We must protect what God has said about marriage and what He has declared it to be.

If we look to the world in any place for a definition of marriage or love, then we're looking in the wrong place. We are damaging our own marriages. We are also setting up our children for problems and failures if we allow them to take in what the world will inevitably teach them about marriage and love. We are impacted by what we see, listen to, and spend our time doing.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NKJV) - "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

We are bombarded in our culture with Hollywood's ideas of love and Nashville's idea of love, whether it be in movie, whether it be in song, we are constantly bombarded even in the books and the magazines of the culture. We are bombarded by all of these things and we have to be careful to really hold dear and protect what God has said about marriage, what God has declared it to be. And if we look to the world in any place for a definition of marriage, for a definition of love, for the expectation of how this love demonstrates itself, then we're missing the boat. And we're probably bringing damage to our own marriages as husbands and wives. But we're setting up our children for problems.

We're setting them up for failures if we're allowing them to imbibe the quiet doctrine of Hollywood and Nashville. And I say quiet, sometimes it's not so quiet, but sometimes it is. And We need to be careful of these influences coming into our home and having an impact on our marriages husband and wife but also in indoctrinating our kids and giving them false ideas and false notions of what love is like.
