Why is home discipleship so important?
Kirk Smith explains in this video that home discipleship is important because when fathers disciple their children, children will remember the time that parents took to study God's Word. They will understand that it is an important aspect to family life when their parents prioritize this time.
Fathers will demonstrate by their actions to their sons what a godly man is to be. Lastly, when daughters see fathers discipling them and their siblings, it provides them with a good example of what to look for in a future husband. God commands it; it brings great hope to the family.
Proverbs 1:8-9 (NKJV) - "My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother;
for they will be a graceful ornament on your head, and chains about your neck."
I'm often asked, why is home discipleship so important? And it's a great question. And I encourage people to understand that just the activity itself has value. Because when we, especially as fathers, mothers sometimes, but especially as fathers, when we disciple our kids, we're doing several things. They might not understand the theology behind the catechism at that time.
But they remember that mom and dad take time out if they prioritize the time, the opportunity to spend that time catechizing. So as our kids get older they understand this is a very important aspect of family life. And secondly, whenever we fathers disciple our children, we establish a family altar. We demonstrate to our sons not by our words but by our actions, This is what a golly man does. That will serve them well in their future.
And thirdly, when our daughters see us catechizing, disciplining our children at home, it also shows them what kind of a man they want to marry in the future as well. So There's so much more to it than just the theology of what's being transmitted to the next generation. It's just the orthopraxy and the priority that we put on it, because God commands it, therefore, it brings great hope to the family. You
