What is family worship?
Kevin Swanson explains in this video that family worship is a time to receive truths from Scripture and to worship God for who He is. At its core, family worship is a time for both parents to lead their children in a time of worship to God.
Where do we do it? It is good to set aside a time to read God's Word and spend time in prayer. However, family worship can happen anywhere. In any case, we should desire to worship God for who He is and what He has done. As parents, we ought to strive to convey that spirit of worship and reverence to God to our children.
Psalm 95:6-7 (NKJV) - "Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand."
What is family worship? Well it's worship. It's receiving the truth about God and falling on our knees and falling on our face, lifting up our hands and worshipping God with a true sense of His power, His wisdom, His love and His grace. And so where do we do family worship? It's good to prepare somebody.
It's good to have a time where we come together, read God's Word, we receive a revelation of the mighty works of God, and then we open up in prayer and grace. But it can happen anywhere. It can happen as We're walking along the beach on vacation and we see this amazing sunset that goes from horizon to horizon and we just fall on our knees and we say, kids, let's just sing, praise God from whom all blessings flow. That's family worship. We want to worship God for who He is and what He's done and as fathers and as mothers, let's convey that spirit of worship and that spirit of awe and reverence before God.
So ultimately, fundamentally, family worship is just an opportunity for Dad and for Mom to lead in a heart-deep worship and devotion to God.
