What is a benefit of regular family worship?
Paul Thompson explains in this video that family worship helps families to navigate culture. When families gather together to pray and study Scripture, children have the opportunity to ask questions of their fathers. Parents have the opportunity to share how God is working in their lives and to teach their children how God's Word is applicable for all of life.
These times of studying Scripture and can help us to recenter our thinking. When we see Scripture as sufficient, family worship can help to recalibrate the mind and ultimately help us to set our minds on the things of God.
Romans 12:2 (NKJV) - "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."
What family worship really helps a family do is it really helps us to navigate through the culture that we live in. Family worship is that moment where dad, mom can sit down with the sons and daughters and just talk about the things we've experienced through the day. A father can talk about the challenges he had at work. A mother can talk about the frustrations of this or the joys of that. And children have the opportunity to ask questions, essentially.
To ask, a father, you know, I did this today and I don't know if it was right or wrong and what would be a right way. So family worship kind of helps reset the thinking because, again, it's centered upon the sufficiency of Scripture, that it's framed in this manner to help the child know how do I navigate through picking friends, what things will I engage myself in, what music will I listen to, what conversations will I have. So family worship can really be one of those things to help kind of recalculate and recalibrate the mind and set it upon the things of God, the holy things of God.
