How can disciplining your child be an opportunity to present the Gospel?

Sam Waldron explains in this video that when you discipline your children, a parent ought to begin with a rebuke and a call to repentance, calling them to confess their sin.

Parents also ought to encourage their children to pray for God's forgiveness and to go to the person that they have wronged and ask for their forgiveness. Each time of discipline is a Gospel opportunity. They need to see how they have sinned against God and how they are in need of salvation.

Every discipline situation is an evangelistic opportunity. Every discipline situation ought to begin with a rebuke. Here's what you did wrong. Here's why it needs to be disciplined. This is how you acted contrary to the Word of God.

Here's how your spirit violated the precepts of God with regard to how you should think and feel. And that's the rebuke. Then there's the call to repentance. You need to ask forgiveness. You need to say you're sorry.

Sometimes that repentance isn't going to be forthcoming and there's going to be the necessity of corporal discipline. It's going to be the way to spank the child. Please forgive me to God on the basis of what Christ did and if there are other people involved to go to them and ask forgiveness from them as well.

And so there must be a sense that every disciplined situation is a gospel opportunity with our children and we must discipline them evangelistically.
