How can we promote harmony within the home?
Gary Powers explains in this video that they have encouraged their children to be best friends with each other. This involves working through conflict and showing each other kindness to each other and work out those relationships when they break down.
They encourage their children to freely extend forgiveness and to sincerely apologize when they have wronged each other.
John 13:34-35 (NKJV) - "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
We've encouraged our children to be best friends and to spend, we have a large family, we have 10 children, so to be able to have children, we have different pockets of children at different ages where they've, you know, they spend the enormous amounts of time together and to work through conflict and to really love each other. And of course there's pestering and there's picking on, but it's pretty limited, but it's really encouraging children to love each other and to care for each other and to work out those relationships when they break down and to always be quick to ask for forgiveness. We don't let our children get away with saying, you know, I'm sorry. You know, we want them to ask for forgiveness and we want the one that is offended to say, I forgive you. I forgive you instead of just saying, that's all right.
No big deal. No, we want real forgiveness.
