Why does marriage matter?

Mike Davenport explains in this video that marriage matters ultimately because it is a picture of the love of Christ has for His bride, the Church. The centrality of marriage and the importance of it is not based on a tradition or culture as we know it.

Rather, it is based on the Word of God. Marriage is a picture of what God had intended from before the foundations of the world. The love of Christ for His people goes beyond anything that we can understand. It is a reflection of God's eternal love.

Ephesians 5:25-26 (NKJV) - "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word."

Marriage matters ultimately because marriage is a picture of the love of Jesus Christ, the bridegroom for His bride, the church of Jesus Christ. And so the centrality of marriage, the importance of marriage is not based on a tradition. It's not based on culture as we know it in this world. It's based on the Word of God. God didn't look down and see marriage happening in these cultures and and then in inspiring the Word of God Latch on to something that he found in the culture note Marriage is a picture already of what God had intended from the foundation of the world before the foundations of the world because he said to his people, I have loved you with an everlasting love and with cords of loving kindness I have drawn you.

And so the love of Jesus Christ for his people goes way back beyond human culture, beyond anything that we understand as marriage today. And so the importance and the centrality of marriage is a reflection, really, of God's eternal love for a people. And his sending his son, who was actually even slain before the foundations of the world, for that people.
