How do Christians live in a hostile society?
Pooyan Mehrshahi explains in this video that families living in Western society constantly find themselves in a hostile environment. Such a society is hostile towards Scripture and towards Christians.
To live and thrive in such a society, we must know the grace of God and His way of salvation through Christ. We must also see our own sinful heart and recognize that we need daily cleansing. Finally, we must know our enemy, the devil. We must know how we can be entangled in sin. We must seek to live a holy life before the Lord.
Matthew 5:14-16 (NKJV) - "“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."
The families who are living in the Western society, the Western world, are living in the enemy land. We are living in a hostile environment and it increases to be more hostile. And that affects us as individuals, that affects us within our homes. And so one of the things that we must know is to know the Lord. To know Him who has revealed Himself in the pages of Holy Scripture, to know His grace, to know His salvation through Jesus Christ the Lord.
That is our first thing, to know the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. But also we must know ourselves. We find within ourselves a great enemy, our own sinful heart that needs daily cleansing. And then in the society in which we live in, we need to know our enemy. We need to identify the enemy, which is the world, the flesh, the devil, and we need to know its devices that it uses to entangle us and entrap us.
And so the family needs to, by open Bibles, identify the enemy and identify the trappings of the society. The society in which we are living in is very anti-Christian. In every direction it is seeking to attack and undermine the home, undermine the Word of God, undermine anything that would glorify God. And so with our open Bibles, seeking and searching the scriptures, we need to identify these things. And by God's grace, then to seek to live those things out, and to live a holy life before the Lord.
