What does it mean that Christ is the Vine?

Rob Ventura explains in this video that when Christ speaks about being the vine, He is using Old Testament language. 

Christ as the Vine gives us spiritual sustenance. As Christians, we need to abide in the vine. We need to regularly draw near to Christ and take all that we need from Him. We need to be spiritually sustained every day of our lives. 

John 15:1-2 (NKJV) - "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit."

So when Jesus speaks about being the vine, he says, I am the vine. Again he's picking up Old Testament language because again God speaks of himself as the vine. But when we think about a natural vine, again, what it's doing is giving supply to the branches. So Christ as the vine is the one who gives us our spiritual sustenance. John 15, I am the vine, abide in me.

So as Christians, we need to abide in the vine of Christ. Again, it's a metaphorical statement, but it's telling us that as believers we need to regularly draw near to Christ. We need to constantly be, as it were, taking from Him all that we need as believers to be spiritually sustained every day of our lives.
