What is something that we can do to aid our study of Christ?

John Snyder explains that one of the most helpful things we can do in our study of Christ is to do what a professor advised him to do when he was first starting seminary. His professor advised him to get to know Jesus better than he knew ay other person – family or friends. 

He began to gather together every verse and phrase from every old writer. He began to write them down in a notebook. In the book of John especially, Christ describes how He relates to God the Father.  

Philippians 3:8-10 (NKJV) – “Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.”

I think one of the most helpful things we can do in our own personal study of Jesus Christ is to do what an older professor advised me to do when I was first starting seminary. I asked him all these big theological questions and he gave me this simple advice instead and I really appreciate it and though I failed to do it as I wished I had, I found it really worth every effort I've made. And he encouraged me to get to know Jesus, the God-man, better than I knew any other person, better than I knew my family, better than I knew my closest friends. It seemed strange to me at first, but as I began to look through the Gospels, I began to gather together every verse, Old Testament or New Testament, every every phrase from every old writer, every quote, every hymn, verse, anything that would give me a clear view of Christ's glory. And I began to write them down in a notebook.

Especially in the Gospel of John where Jesus himself describes the interior aspects of his relationship with the Father. I mean in the book of Matthew, Mark and Luke we see so much detail about what he does but John is a little different. He expects you
