How did Jesus demonstrate His deity?

Marcus Serven explains in this video that there were people who only see Jesus as a poor carpenter when in fact our Lord is God Himself. Paul says clearly in Colossians 2 that He is the fullness of deity in bodily form. He is not a mere man or a carpenter, but He came into the world to establish His kingdom and to fulfill all the prophecies of Himself.  

In Mark 2, we see Jesus healing the paralytic. He forgives the sins of men, something that only God can do. Jesus is demonstrating who He claimed to be and who He really is. He had the power and authority to forgive sin and He proved that He had the authority by raising the paralytic up and healing him. Jesus is the Lord who can forgive sins as only God can do.

John 1:14 (NKJV) – “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Okay, let's talk a little bit about who Jesus Christ is. That's an important question at this time in history because there's so many in our world who today would only see Him as that carpenter who comes out of Nazareth and who collects a ragtag collection of disciples to follow Him around. When in fact our Lord is God himself, Paul says very clearly in Colossians 2 that he is the fullness of deity in bodily form. And so when we take into mind what the apostles have said about him and even what some of his enemies have said about him and what he said and did to demonstrate that he was truly the Son of God. And taking that all together, then it gives us a great reason for knowing who the Lord is.

He's not just a mere man. He's not just the carpenter from Nazareth, but He is the Lord who's come into this world to establish His kingdom. And He does that in first century Palestine. He does that in fulfillment of all the prophecies that the prophets had given in past generations and he shows himself to be truly who he says he is. One of the most gripping stories to me that comes Early on in the ministry of Jesus is in Mark chapter 2 where Jesus heals the paralytic.

You remember the story of course when Jesus is teaching there in Capernaum and the men come bringing the paralytic lying on a pallet and they decide that the crowd is too thick for them to get into the house so they they tear off the roof. You can imagine Jesus inside and all the people all the dust and dirt sort of filtering down and and Jesus continuing to teach and looking up and wondering what is going on up there. But eventually a light comes streaming through the ceiling of the house and down is a man who's lowered on this pallet and he lies there before the Lord. Jesus sees their faith and he says to the paralytic the most unlikely thing, son your sins are forgiven. And instantly all of the critics of Jesus begin wondering how could he possibly say that?

Only God can forgive sins. And of course that's the point. Only God can forgive sins. And Jesus is demonstrating to all the people there who He not only claimed to be, but who He really is. Well, as the people begin to go back and forth on that, they charge Him a blasphemy.

And later, Jesus says to the paralytic, which is easier, to say to the paralytic, your sins are forgiven, or to say rise, take up your bed and cross, but that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins, he said to the paralytic, I say to you rise, pick up your bed and go home and he rose and immediately picked up his bed and went out before them all so that they were all amazed and glorified God saying we have never seen anything like this before. What Jesus did there was that he demonstrated that he not only had the power and the authority to forgive sins, which was a very difficult thing to do, only God could do that. But then he proved that he had the authority and the power to do it by raising the paralytic up and by demonstrating that power by healing him. And so in a double-pronged exhortation of proof, Jesus then shows all the people who were gathered and then all of us who would read about this centuries as the centuries go by after the fact, then we see that He truly was who He said He was, the Lord who's able to forgive sins as God only can do.
