Anthony Mathenia explains in this video that false repentance can be tricky to diagnose, but ultimately, those who do not repent recognize that they have sinned but make no effort to change, to turn from sin, and to put it to death. They are all too content to continue living in that lifestyle of sin. They minimize what sin truly is.

Acts 3:19 (NKJV) - "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord."

False repentance can be tricky to diagnose, but ultimately as a result of looking at our lives, ourselves, or looking at others, it will look like continually mentioning your sin, recognizing that you're a sinner, but making no real effort to alter your life or to change your life, to do away with sin, to reckon yourselves, Romans chapter 6, dead to sin and alive to Christ.
