Anthony Mathenia explains in this video that repentance necessitates a change of direction. According to Scripture, repentance involves changing from serving our sin to serving God. Repentance isn't continuing down the same path that you've just now confessed. Rather, it is a turning away from sin and doing a complete turn.

Acts 3:19 (NKJV) - "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord."

I would define repentance briefly yet specifically as a change of direction. We often think about repentance being a change of mind about an issue, a sin particularly. But if we look at it according to the Scriptures, repentance is a change of direction with our life. We change from serving ourselves and sin to serving the living God.
