Kevin Swanson explains in this video that the Reformers were willing to put their lives on the line and boldly preach the Word of God despite persecution and threats. Today, there is a tremendous need for repentance because Americans have turned away from Christ. We need to be unafraid to proclaim the Gospel.

2 Corinthians 7:10 (NKJV) - "For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death."

I think what you saw with the Reformers was a boldness and a willingness to submit themselves to the most intense persecuting forces for the cause of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They were willing to put their lives on the line and raise the standard of the Word of God and preach the Word of God despite all of the threats of persecution. I think persecution is inevitable here in the Western world. The entire Western world, all of North America, all of Europe, has turned away from God and has apostatized from the faith exhibited by its rejection of a biblical standard for marriage and sexuality. Every nation has apostatized officially now by mandate of the Supreme Court's, the president's, the legislature's of every Western country.

Meanwhile Asia and Africa, every nation has refused to join that apostasy with the exception of South Africa. So what we see is a tremendous need for repentance. We see a tremendous need for these nations to fall on their faces and cry out for God's mercy. But I think also it's the fact that our nations have turned away from Jesus Christ, have actually turned apostate, and we need to repent of this apostasy as well and recognize Jesus once again as being the very Son of God who is the prophet, the priest, the king, the source of truth, the source of our ethics, the one who calls our shots, the one who gives us our commandments, and the one who saves us from our sins. We also need to repent of the issue of statism, and that is state worship.

Socialism and state worship is pretty much the rule of the day. That is, Americans go to the polls to vote for the person that will salvage their health care, salvage their social security, and salvage their economy. Of course, this is a complete lie. There's nothing that political governments can do to salvage any of this. Governments are not called to save.

Governments are called to execute the evil doer. And so now we have this lie, but we also have a desire in the hearts of most Americans and most people in the Western world to worship their governments and to see their governments as a savior. We need to repent of this. We need to turn back to the true and living God, to the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the only Savior of this world.
