What are the marks of a humble church?

Carlton McLeod explains in this video that a humble church is the opposite of a proud and cold church. In a humble church, the congregation is tender and check up on each other.

They use words like, “I appreciate you.” When there is error or difficulty, they don’t have to be forced to humble or repent. A repentant church is meek and joyful. A congregation that embraces humility is uncomfortable with discord. They lose sleep when there is angst that they cannot resolve.  

Philippians 2:3-4 (NKJV) – “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”

It's so sweet. Have you ever walked into a church and you felt the discord? You're walking down the pew and you literally feel the factions that are at odds with each other. Well, it's the opposite of that. It is when the family of God, the members of a local church, are watchful, tender.

They repeat back to one another. They check on one another. They make sure they haven't been misunderstood. They use words like, I love you brother, I appreciate you sister. And when there is error or problem or difficulty, then they don't have to have their arms twisted so much to be the first to repent, the first to humble themselves.

And again, Satan works hard to keep this from happening. He works hard to cause us to walk in his air of pride, putting self first. Well, The Repentant Church looks the opposite of that. The Repentant Church is meek and joyful and uncomfortable with discord. And The repentant church loses sleep when there's angst that we can't resolve.

And it may sound like a lot of work these days, but when we get it right, it's a beautiful thing. You
