How do you know that you are saved?

David Eddy explains in this video that when people want to be a member of the church or want to be baptized, he asks, “Why?” He and his fellow elders particularly look at their testimony. Anytime a person wants to be baptized or be a member, he asks, "Why do you think that you are saved? Why do you think you’re going to Heaven?"

He shares that in his experience, you always get one of two answers. It's either something you did or it is something that Christ did. It is very clear to see who has truly repented. 

John 14:6 (NKJV) – “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

So the evidence that I look for is, and as a pastor, we have one of the jobs that we get to do is when people want to become a member of the church or they want to get baptized, we say, why? Why are you doing that? And we're really looking for their, quote, testimony, salvation story, whatever you want to call it. And what I look for every time is why do you think you're saved? Why do you think you're going to heaven?

Why do you think you know the Lord is your Lord? And you'll always get one or two answers. It's either something you did or something Jesus did. And it's very clear and you can, it's really amazing to see people that have never really come to that repentance. They'll come up with all sorts of things.
