What is a characteristic of a repentant pastor?

Carlton McLeod explains in this video that … a repentant pastor is humble, transparent, willing to admit his faults and failures, and understands that the ministry doesn’t fall on him alone but in the church body there are many members.

He handles the Word of God tenderly and carefully. His love for Scripture is infectious. They do not fall into the trap of believing that somehow they are more important than others. They recognize that they are sinners saved by grace. 

2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV) – “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

What does repentance look like in the pastor of a church? I think a pastor of a church that is repentant, is humble, transparent, willing to admit his faults and his failures, understands very well that the ministry doesn't rise and fall on him alone, but that in the body there are many members, each with precious function. And I think, I think he handles the word of God very tenderly and very carefully, even when he's bold. And I think it's infectious. I think because that church then, if those elders are humble, repentant men, I think that church is going to, it's going to be an impartation of that wonderful fruit into the flock so the entire ministry then becomes a place where people repent quickly and are transparent.

I think it's easy to tell a man who is humble and repentant and one who maybe thinks of himself a little bit more highly than he ought. And it's a great fear, I think, of mine, but I think it should be a great fear of every elder to never fall into that place where you believe your own press. You must realize you are just a sinner saved by grace. As my pastor says, you're just a sheep with a microphone, and you better remember that.
